IARC Data Dashboard: New Tool to Guide Regional Planning In Indiana

The Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD), in collaboration with the Indiana Association of Regional Councils (IARC), has launched a new online data dashboard designed to provide key metrics on the 15 regional planning organizations that are members of IARC.  The tool, accessible at http://iarcdatadashboard.com/, showcases 11 core data items for each region. These include a profile of a region’s major industry clusters, population composition and trends, changes in the number of adults in the labor force, advertised broadband speeds, and more.  All data items are visually presented as graphs and charts, allowing users to gain a quick understanding of the key features of each region.  Not only can users export the data for their own use, they can save graphs/charts as images.

According to Theresa Hartwig, the former Executive Director of IARC, “the Data Dashboard provides valuable data to help Indiana’s Economic Development Districts plan for the economic development growth of their region and to forecast economic trends at the regional level.”

PCRD serves as the Economic Development Administration (EDA) University Center for the state of Indiana, a joint effort with Ball State University’s Indiana Communities Institute. The IARC Data Dashboard is one of several important efforts PCRD is pursuing as a result of a five-year grant from the Chicago Regional Office of the EDA.  The purpose of the University Center is to delineate, nurture and enhance Indiana’s regional economic ecosystems and regional innovation clusters. Contact the Purdue Center for Regional Development (PCRD) to learn more about its EDA University Center activities or other important research and engagement work of the PCRD.
