EDA University Center

PCRD has served as Indiana’s Economic Development Administration University Center since 2005.

PCRD has served as Indiana’s Economic Development Administration University Center since 2005. Ball State University joined forces with PCRD in 2016 to establish the Purdue-Ball State Joint EDA University Center in 2016. The joint effort is providing a more expansive set of programs and resources to support the important work of Economic Development Districts, Regional Planning Organizations, and local community and economic development entities across the state. As part of its EDA work, the Joint Center is focusing on four key goals:

Build and Sustain Vibrant Local and Regional Collaborations

The long vitality of regions in Indiana is dependent on the ability of communities and counties to work in partnership at the regional level in the pursuit of opportunities that build on their collective assets.

Expand the Suite of Innovative Data Tools for Advancing Local and Regional Planning

Complex issues impacting places and regions in Indiana (and beyond) require access to high quality data. Putting user-friendly data products in the hands of local and regional development organizations is an important ingredient for guiding their comprehensive economic development plans.

Strengthen the Connection of Entrepreneurs & Small Businesses to Their Region’s Innovation Clusters

Reducing dependence on suppliers located outside of the state can be valuable strategy for retaining more financial resources in the region. Finding ways to better link small businesses, entrepreneurs and proprietors to the supply chain needs of larger firms in a region can be an effective way to grow jobs and increase household wealth.

Explore the Talent Needs of Regional Clusters & Economic Development Organizations

Businesses, industries and organizations are dependent on a labor force with the requisite education, training, skills and experiences to fill critical jobs. The Joint EDA UC is examining and informing Indiana regions of the current and emerging talent needs of key industry clusters located in their regions. In addition, developing/delivering training programs that expand the pipeline of future leaders of regional economic development organizations in the state is an important area of focus as well.
